Alsalam alykum
Since no one came to the last meeting (you were right, it was a bad timing. but I though some of you are still in the city) I'll just work what was to be done through e-mail. I'll use e-mails more then meetings from now on.
Note: if you don't want to register to the forum to comment (or don't want to be known), send the comment through the e-mail and I'll post it here as Anonymous.
3 Topics I was going for in the last meeting, they were: Level of skills, Projects and Next step
Level of skills: I need to know the level of skills that the members have (or at least, a sample of the members) so that we know where we need to work (do we need to have Java related lectures or Game related?) for example, if the members are good in Java, then we do Game related lectures like "Input Device programming" I'm assuming that Java is the most use language between the members. (read "Next step" before commenting on this)
Projects: as you read in the last e-mail, instead of individual assignments, we'll do projects that focus on one or two topics at a time. this has been recommended to promote team work (plus code clarity) cause most games are made in a team now a days. We need to agree on the timing and team selections format. topics example:( Gravity, User Interface, Collision detection ....etc )
Next step: I was planning to go with the projects and lectures (using Java) for our next activities through the next semester. But recently, a new club started in the university which is the ".Net" club, and its supported by Microsoft. The president of the club is my friend and he told me that he can give support to the club (we are talking Microsoft power here!). BUT, we have to use C# or .Net technology to program our games.
The benefit of this is that we have Microsoft to support the club (who know, maybe we can get a real Xbox games programmer to give a few lecture or at least give Xbox to members as prizes).
The downside, is that we have to learn C# or .Net all over.
if you want my opinion, C# is used to make games more than Java, and its closer to C++ which is the most used language. Plus, this well mean that we all start on the same foot in learning to program games. the problem lies is learning materials, but I guess Microsoft will be more than happy to help plus the internet has everything you need.
Ok, that's enough writing for now. I'd love to see your comments on this. Thank you for reading and have a nice day!

I have no problems at all with programming with C# or .Net framework in general coz I already took it in SWE 344 (Yes, I'm a Software Engineer).
two reasons for continuing with C# are: 1. As you mentioned above, support from Microsoft and to prepare our self for the real world outside !! 2. We will be able to use DirectX which works best with .Net framework and supports lots of features (Better and more Professional than OpenGL I guess).
Maybe we get direct support from Microsoft someday, who knows !!!

salaam I have read the post tile .. I was like ... then I stop at ... I said OMG.. then I shocked from .. Was going to say WT? ;D... so I stop read what remain.. And start to think about put x on the clue . the reason is I don't believe in Java as it programming language. And it personal opinionate... and I hate Java as VM and Apps. Also I dont want to force the club members to not using it cuz I dont want to use it ) BUT somehow my eyes noticed something like "C#" ... which give a will to read all the post ... So go on to c# I'll be with you. I don't think its a problem. if someone know Java, he learn the basic of c# in hours and the other concept he can learn it later . out of subject.... I hope mr.kanan give me aproval on SWE344 ... I'm SWE and i cant take it ...

Alsalam Alaykum, 1) I am with the C++ or C# lessons (since most of the game companies need them ) 2) Another club!!! , supported by Microsoft 3) Why can't we make someone back us ( Since they got Microsoft, why don't we have Sony!! . I am not joking, I am saying the truth!!!! )

Alsalam Alaikum
>I go with C# cuz it's easier and more powerful in games development ... especially in using DirectX lib, rather than java.
>We can use java in mobile games, why not. People who are intersting in java can program games for Nokia mobiles. (Visit sun.com for more info)
>Microsoft support is a great idea as long as our club is separated form .NET club, and not combined with it.
>I suggest to but a topic for 'games ideas' to start games projrcts. We should have a bank of ideas and these will be the back bone of the club projects. No ideas, simply, no games!
>Thanx

I think using c# is good idea. Since - we will get support from Microsoft . - it is also challenge for us. - networking and thread in c# is easier than java

C++ and C# are good, but how about Linux (the playstation enviroment uses it, not the games!!)
